Transport and Directions to and from Maui Airport

There are several means of ground transportation from Maui Airport such as the public bus called Maui Bus, a shuttle service or the taxi. The shuttle that you can take belongs to the Maui Airport Shuttle company that serves the entire U.S state of Hawaii.

If you want to take a taxi from Maui Airport, make sure you choose the services of the official taxi company serving clients right from the airport to the island of Maui. Renting a car is also a possibility and there are offices of car rental companies located in a building at the Maui Airport.

Rent a car at Maui Airport

When you get out of the Maui Airport, you will find a building where all car rental offices are located. You can rent a car directly from the airport but you might not always find a car available which is why it’s better that you make an online reservation with the car rental company of your choice.

Considering that the majority of tourists who arrive at Maui Airport are usually planning to visit various places on the island of Maui, renting a car is the easiest and fastest way to reach them.

In Maui, just like in the entire state of Hawaii, cars are droven on the right side of the road.

Travel by Bus

You can take the Maui Bus directly from the Maui Airport and the bus stops are located in front of the terminal. There are two buses that you can take from the airport station:

  • Route 35 and
  • Route 40.

Route 35 will take you from the Maui Airport to places such as Paia and Haiku and Route 40 bus takes you to Makawao, Pukalani and Haliimaile.

Travel by Shuttle

There is a shuttle available from the Maui Airport as well and you can find the counter for this service in the Baggage Claim area. This shuttle operates on the entire island of Maui which means that it is an easy way to get around there.

The price for one-way tickets varies depending on the area you want to go.

  • Kahului – $17,
  • Kihei – $26,
  • Wailea – 38$ and
  • Makena – 41$.

All taxis in Maui run a meter and the fare is $3.00 per mile. Some approximated fares to surrounding areas are as follows:

  • Kahului Town – $13,
  • Maalea – $33,
